Fleetwood Manufactured Home Gable Cancer

A gable is part of the roof that extends beyond the end of the house and helps keep rain and snow off the side of the house. The picture below is a Fleetwood Home gable exposed from above with the roofing plywood and any insulation removed. The gable is supported in part by attachment to what I call "end board things". Otherwise, the gable is weakly attached and will tend to blow away in the wind. Exposed Gable on a Fleetwood Home

Exposed Gable on a Fleetwood Home But wait, here's a closer view of a Fleetwood Home end board thing. As you can see it completely misses the gable, and it is absolutely NOT attached to the gable. Interestingly, ALL of the end board things were similarly situated: they missed the gable completely and were not attached.

How can this be? I really don't know. But I suppose it's sort of like having wheels that don't quite attach to your car. Yes, the wheels are present, they're just not attached. And why should they be attached anyway? If they were, they might fall off and that would be bad. So best not attach the wheels in the first place.

Fleetwood Home Gable Stapling Not to be outdone by the guys missing the end board things, the guys selecting the gable lumber had to do one better. Yes, "Just Fleetwood It" they said. Can't find a 12-foot board for your gable? Well instead just find a 7-footer and a 5-footer and attach them using the method of a billion staples. Don't use any sort of joining plate (metal OR wood). After all, that would make sense and take time. So just grab the staple gun and blast away.
